Version 1.98 Update

PDF Creator Added

For e-mail or other needs, we've added an option for you to create PDF files. When updating, you will be given an opportunity to add this at no cost or skip the PDF option. Other updates will occur whether or not you add PDF Creator.

Note: PDF Creator is a 3rd party product which enhances all Windows applications with the ability to create pdf files. We have automated the installation of the program as part of our install process, and have modified the LTCia model to work with it. However, we did not create, and do not own, the PDF Creator software. The PDF creation ability of this software is also available to your other programs. For additional information, see their website.

Survivor Cash Flow Erosion Restored

The impact on the surviving spouse of retirement income can be devastating. We again added the title to this section of the Care Cost Report. The loss of retirement income is due to the fund spent on care, tax impact of liquidating investments to pay the care costs, and then additional loss of investment income during and following the care event. In some circumstances if a long survivor period, the cost of this investment opportunity can match or exceed the funds spent on care.

Expanded: Summary - Care Cost Only Report / With or Without Client Signature

Several users initially focus on care cost and requested a summary report that could be used in conjunction with the Cost of Care Report. The strategy is to gain client understanding of the problem and then discuss solutions. The signature option provides a future record of conversations about LTC financial impact and client decisions on whether to insure or self fund that risk.

Expanded: Disclaimer Report / With or Without Client Signature

While each applicable report page includes appropriate disclaimer footnotes, several insurance carriers have requested a separate "Disclaimer Page." We have now added a client signature option.

New Scenario Compare Report:
Care Cost vs. Benefit vs. Premium

Pictures, with supporting facts, are worth a thousand words!

Quickly identify value of insurance versus self-funding care cost. Powerful graphics plus the details, when needed.

Includes Premium Breakeven, Internal Rate of Return and Net Present Value results of alternative benefit choices. Illustrate impact of care events on family wealth, without insurance, with high co-pays and with comprehensive coverage.

Year 2004 Updates

Expanded Rate Tables for Automatically Calculated Generic Premiums

1. Generic 2004 Rate Table … Auto Calculated Premiums … Limited Pay, ROP and more.

BIG PICTURE PROJECTIONS REFLECTING TYPICAL NEW RATE STRUCTURES

Instant ballpark calculations for all significant benefit design options and riders. Including; Limited Pay, Return of Premium, Indemnity or Reimbursement, Survivor Benefits and Dual Waiver.

2. Generic 2000 … Auto Calculated Premiums … Basic Insurance Designs

Generic 2000 rates reflect typical premiums on policies issued up to 2004. These include automatic premium calculations for basic benefit design choices included in all prior versions of the software.

3. Custom Benefit Design …. User provides premium

Custom also continues as in earlier versions. Custom enables the user to illustrate projections based on designs available in most traditional long-term care policies. Since custom does not include rate tables, this choice requires the user to input premium.

Powerful additional tools to answer tough client questions!

  • Why buy insurance when I can invest the premium and pay own costs?
  • If I buy insurance, when do I get my money back?
  • How do I figure out benefit choices that make sense financially?
  • Am I better off with one of the limited premium payment options?
  • Considering time value of money, does return of premium make sense?
  • If my premium goes up in the future, will insurance still be a good deal?
  • Will you explain your benefit recommendations to my CPA?
